New library film shot by music legend
Date published: 03 June 2009
A stalwart of the North West music scene is helping to make a film for Bury Libraries to highlight the many services they offer.
The film is being produced by Bury-based film maker Tony Burns, who has recruited his good friend and cameraman John Brierley for the project.
John has worked on numerous TV dramas and sporting events around the world. Before filming at Bury library John was working on “Emmerdale”, and he is now off to film the FIFA Confederation Cup in June.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he played a pivotal role in the region’s music industry by setting up the famous Cargo Studios in Rochdale.
The film will showcase the wide range of services that Bury libraries offer, from “traditional” services such as the loan of books, music and films to the delivery of online training courses and support in accessing other council services via Council Information Points.
Filming took place in Bury Library, Castle Leisure Library and Bury Archives in May, and the finished product should be available to view in July on the website http://www.bury.gov.uk/leisureandculture/libraries/default.asp
Cargo ran for six years and many renowned post-punk bands recorded there, including The Fall, Gang of Four and Joy Division.
Gary Phillips, information services librarian, said: “I’m sure this film will really help to highlight the wide range of services on offer. On a personal level I’m thrilled to work with the man who engineered “Atmosphere” by Joy Division, among many other great tunes.”
