Transport bosses launch new graduate scheme
Date published: 16 April 2009
Greater Manchester transport bosses have launched a new recruitment website to help attract graduates interested in a bright future in project management.
Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) – responsible for major transport infrastructure across the county – is looking for three graduates to join its inaugural scheme.
The two-year programme is aimed at developing Project Managers, with permanent roles at GMPTE for successful candidates. During the scheme, graduates will have the opportunity to work in several project roles, as well as experiencing work in other areas of the business.
Paul Griffiths, GMPTE’s Interim Projects Director, said: “At GMPTE we plan and deliver some of the biggest construction projects in the North West.
“Among many other things we build transport interchanges, upgrade rail stations and are currently working on a £600 million expansion of the Metrolink tram network.
“We want to hear from ambitious graduates who have the drive and determination to help us achieve our vision for transport.
“GMPTE has an excellent track record of delivering high-profile projects on time and on budget and we want to make sure our next generation of Project Managers keep that up.”
GMPTE owns all 22 bus stations and transport interchanges in Greater Manchester and the Metrolink tram system. It employs more than 300 people at its modern new headquarters at 2 Piccadilly Place and almost 200 staff on the frontline.
Christine Greenway, GMPTE’s Head of Human Resources, said: “This is our first graduate scheme and it’s just the right time for it.
“Graduates will soon be leaving university to look for exciting and challenging jobs with lots of career potential and good benefits – and that’s exactly what we’re offering.
“We hope to expand the graduate recruitment scheme to other areas of the business in the future.
“It’s all part of our drive to maintain GMPTE’s position as an exciting and innovative organisation delivering best value in Greater Manchester.”
To be considered for the role candidates must have achieved a degree, preferably in areas such as transport, engineering or construction, although other disciplines may also be considered.
The successful applicants will gain in-depth knowledge and practical experience through a variety of placements and formal training to develop their career as a project manager.
Graduates can find out more and apply now at www.gmptegraduatejobs.com for the roles that are set to begin in September.
Two open days are also being held at 2 Piccadilly Place in Manchester city centre:
Friday, 17 April 2009 – 12:30 – 4.30pm
Friday, 8 May 2009 – 1 – 5pm
GMPTE is also launching a new online recruitment system for all jobs at www.gmpte.com/jobs
