Bury to get new GP Led Health Centre Open 8am – 8pm, seven days a week

Today (31st March 2009), NHS Bury awarded a contract that will see a new GP Led Health Centre opening in Bury town centre offering GP services to local patients seven days a week.

‘Rock Healthcare’ has been awarded the contract to provide medical services at the new ‘GP Led Health Centre’, which will be based within Moorgate Primary Care Centre on Derby Way.

Local people took an active role in informing the type of services which the new GP Led Health Centre will offer, these services will be geared around the needs of the local community.

The new GP Led Health Centre is in addition to and complements existing GP services and is being funded from new investment.

The service, part of a Government programme to increase access to family doctor services, is due to open its doors to patients later this year. It will be open for seven days a week, from 8am until 8pm, including bank holidays.

Any member of the public will be able to access the services provided by the new GP Led Health Centre as a ‘non-registered patient’ on a walk-in basis or by booking in advance. Patients can do this while staying registered with their local family doctor – making the service invaluable for anyone who lives or works in Bury or is visiting the town.

Patients can also choose to register with the GP Led Health Centre if they wish to do so, and will receive the same high quality services they would receive at any GP Practice. The GP Led Health Centre will offer a wide variety of primary care services to patients.

“Patients tell us that they want greater convenience and more choice in the services they receive, including the option to see a GP early in the morning, during the evening or at weekends. We have been working closely with local GP Practices to offer a greater range of services on a more flexible basis, and establishing brand new services offering yet more choice where and when patients need them.”
