North West Older Peoples Champions Network to meet in Bury

Date published: 27 February 2009

The Mayor of Bury, Councilor Peter Ashworth, will attend a meeting of the Older Peoples Champions Network at the Elizabethan Suite in Bury on Monday 2 March.

Network events are held at different locations throughout the North West throughout the year and bring together the North West’s Older People’s Champions from each Local Authority. Bury’s representative is Councillor Jim Taylor, who will be joining The Mayor to welcome the group to Bury.

The Older Peoples Champions Network was established in March 2006. Their vision is to have a sustainable network of Local Authority Elected Members working in the North West of England who act as a focus for older people (50 plus) in each Authority.

The group will have a presentation on Bury’s successful Age of Opportunities scheme which helps and supports people over 50 and encourages them to maintain an active lifestyle.

Councillor Jim Taylor, Bury’s elected member Older Peoples Champion, said: “It is a great honour for this event to be taking place in Bury. I am really pleased to be able to welcome all the Older Peoples Champions from the North West and showcase what we are doing for our older people.’

If you would like anymore information on the role of an Older Peoples Champion, please contact Councillor Jim Taylor on J.W.H.Taylor@bury.gov.uk
