Police Launch Neighbourhood Policing TV Ad Campaign

Date published: 23 February 2009

A new TV campaign, starring GMP Neighbourhood Police officers, is being launched today (23 February 2009) as part of a high profile awareness campaign.

The 40-second TV advert, believed to be the first of its kind, will be broadcast to promote Neighbourhood Policing Teams and the role they play in local communities to tackle the problems that you think are a priority.

The feel-good ad highlights that every community now has its own Neighbourhood Policing Team that is ready to listen to your crime and anti-social behaviour issues and that the dedicated teams are working in your area to make your community safer. It also directs the viewer to the dedicated NP website gmp.police.uk, where more information is available on how to contact your local officers.

Chief Constable Peter Fahy, Greater Manchester Police, said: “We are always looking at new ways to get important messages across to members of our local communities and this ad is one method we are using to raise awareness of local Neighbourhood Policing Teams, who their local officers are and how they can be contacted to discuss and resolve issues that matter most to them.

“We hope that this advert will grab people’s attention and that the quality of the service we provide to local communities will boost confidence in Greater Manchester Police. It also demonstrates the accessibility of the Neighbourhood Policing Teams, reassuring communities that support is available.

“People often have a good idea what is going on in their area - they know who the criminals are that are running the show. Neighbourhood Policing is all about listening to people when they say they feel unsafe and working closely with them and our partners to ensure these issues are tackled to improve quality of life.”

The ads, which will be aired on Manchester’s local TV station Channel M, will support a forcewide awareness campaign, which includes a regional radio advertising campaign, promotional material being made available in local communities advertising the contact details of the local teams and high profile Neighbourhood Policing initiatives taking place across Greater Manchester.

Neighbourhood Policing provides a dedicated policing service that puts police officers into the heart of communities, responding to local concerns and making neighbourhoods safer places to live.
