Bury Council nominated for Skills for Life Awards

Bury Council has been nominated for two Skills for Life Awards in the Skills for Life: Training Provider and Skills for Life : Learner categories.

The overall winners will be announced in London at a celebration event on 18 March and the awards will be presented by Lord Tony Young, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Skills and Apprenticeships.

The awards recognise the work that Bury Council has undertaken to promote the benefits of access to Skills for Life learning in the workplace for people. It also acknowledges the services provided by the council to give information, advice and guidance for employees and flexible training options for Skills for Life learning

The national awards are sponsored by the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA), which works for local government improvement so councils can serve people and places better.

Councillor Jack Walton, Executive Member for Human Resources and Performance said: “The council’s entry into this competition highlights the work we are undertaking in key areas to encourage employees to engage with high quality Skills for Life training. This demonstrates our commitment towards improving employees’ essential skills so that our services to our customers meet the highest possible standards in these challenging times”.

Mark Sanders, Bury Council Chief Executive said “This nomination is an excellent achievement and the result of focused effort from ourselves and our partners, striving together to develop our workforce”.
