Cricket Coach promotes Boys in to Books in Bury
Date published: 21 January 2009
Pupils from Years 5 and 6 from Holy Trinity C of E Voluntary Aided Primary School will be attending a special Boys into Books presentation event at Castle Leisure Centre Library on Wednesday 28 January at 9.30 am.
Boys into Books is a national scheme to promote and encourage young boys to read more and is based around the theme of sports.
Former professional Cricketer for Lancashire, and now Bury Community Cricket Coach, Joe Scuderi will be dishing out cricketing and reading advice to the boys. The pupils will meet with Joe and Christine Almond, Principal Libraries & Adult Learning Officer (Learning Support) to be presented with gifted books and then they will have some fun playing sports games on the Nintendo Wii in the library..
Joe said, “You need to work hard in anything you want to achieve. As well as watching lots of cricket on TV, I also learnt from reading a lot of cricket magazines, coaching books and biographies which is a great way to pick up tips in improving yourself and your game. There are lots of books out there to appeal to boys and I hope that this event will encourage the school pupils to pop into their local library and pick up some interesting books”.
