Health and community safety tops Whitefield and Unsworth Local Area Partnership agenda

Date published: 13 January 2009

The next meeting of Whitefield & Unsworth Local Area Partnership takes place on Thursday 22 January, 6.30pm at Elms Community Centre, Green Lane, Whitefield, and top of the agenda is a range of health issues.

NHS Bury is producing a five year Strategic Health Plan for Bury which will identify priority health issues and look at how these will be addressed. It will also consider how services can be improved and ensure that patients are given more choice and control over the services they receive. Strokes, heart decease, respiratory, cancer, alcohol, mental health and obesity have been identified as priorities

Dr Peter Elton, Director of Public Health for NHS Bury, at NHS Bury, will be seeking the views of the Local Area Partnership and local residents on health priorities for Bury, improving health and well being and improving health services.

The meeting will also look at issues relating to crime and community safety priorities in the Local Community Plan. Inspector David Ryecroft; Andy Taylor, from Whitefield & Unsworth Home Watch Association; and Rachel Sayers from Bury Council’s Community Safety Team will update the meeting on how crime and anti-social behaviour is being tackled in the area.

The meeting will consider changes to the Hazel Road Environmental Scheme following requests from local residents.

There will also be the regular updates from the Police, Fire and Youth Service as well as 30 minutes of Open Forum discussion where members of the public can raise any issues of concern.

Councillor Michelle Wiseman, Chairperson of Whitefield & Unsworth Local Area Partnership said, “This meeting will consider issues at the very heart of the community. Improving health and well being is a key priority for the Partnership so the opportunity to contribute to setting priorities and improving service delivery is welcome. The Partnership will then look at how community safety issues are being addressed locally. This is a public meeting and members of the community are encouraged to attend and contribute to the discussion.”
