Your guide to public transport this Christmas
Date published: 15 December 2008
Passengers can now pick up a handy guide to public transport over the festive season to help them plan their journeys around Christmas time.
Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) has produced the popular annual guides to keep passengers informed about their festive season services.
The guides, now available from GMPTE Travelshops, cover Metrolink, train and bus services – including Local Link and Ring & Ride – between Christmas Eve and 2 January.
Michael Renshaw, GMPTE’s Interim Service Director, said: “A lot of people may not want to drive during the festive period, and I’d encourage them to give public transport a go instead.
“While there are usually fewer services at this time of year, there are often more running than you might expect, such as a number of bus services on Boxing Day.
“One of the key things that people want is accessible information and we know that the guides are popular. They’re straightforward, easy to use and handy – you can just pop them in your pocket and carry them with you for reference.
“If you want to find out how a particular service is running over Christmas, go to www.gmpte.com for all the timetable information you need or give Traveline a call.”
Bus operators are providing limited bus services in every borough of Greater Manchester on Boxing Day. Services are also running every day through to New Year’s Eve. Some special services will run until 4am on the morning of New Year’s Day.
15,000 posters are being displayed at tram stops, bus stops, and train stations to keep passengers informed.
See www.gmpte.com/christmas for a copy of the leaflet and more information.
Further information about using public transport over the festive period is available by visiting www.gmpte.com/journeyplanner or calling Traveline on 0871 200 2233. Normal hours are from 7am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, and from 8am to 8pm at weekends.
Different times apply between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day as outlined in the leaflet. (Calls from BT landlines cost 10p per minute, mobile and other landline networks may charge more.)
