New Award up for grabs at the annual Bury Sports Awards
Date published: 09 December 2008
A new award for Music Achiever of the Year is up for grabs at this year’s sports awards ceremony, which take place on 6 February 2009.
It is the first joint sports and arts event which marks Bury’s programme of events and activities in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympics.
The new category has been introduced to celebrate a group or individual who has taken on a musical challenge and achieved their personal best within the past year. For example it could be someone who picked up a musical instrument for the first time a few months ago and is now playing regularly for a local organisation, a local choir who have inspired community pride or a band who have accomplished a great deal within the past 12 months.
Councillor Yvonne Creswell, Executive Member for Community Relations and User Focus, said: “This new award gives people the chance to nominate a friend, relative, colleague or neighbour for this award. The idea behind the award is to celebrate musical achievement, personal accomplishment, pride in Bury’s creative Arts and inspire others to get involved in music. We are looking for nominations from musicians, bands, choirs and singers across Bury. There is a lot of talent in Bury and we want to hear about it”.
Nominations for the awards close on 31 December and application forms can be downloaded from the website at: http://www.bury.gov.uk/LeisureAndCulture/ArtsAndEntertainment/ArtsDevelopment/MusicAward.htm.
Alternatively you can call Farrell Renowden on 0161 253 5804 or call into the Arts Development Office in The Met for a nomination form.
