207 (Manchester) Field Hospital (Volunteers) have been visiting Fairfield General Hospital in Bury over the last week with their recruiting trailer parked on site and Recruiting Team visiting key departments.
“207” is one of eleven TA units whose role is to provide medical support to UK Forces on operations overseas. “207” ran the British Military Hospital in Iraq for part of 2004 and is likely deploy to Afghanistan in the near future.
In order to ensure that “207” are able to provide the very best care for our Servicemen and woman injured on Operations they are currently recruiting high calibre staff from hospitals within the Greater Manchester area. The aim of the visit to Fairfield is twofold, firstly to raise the profile of the “207” and secondly to recruit key clinical staff, such as A&E doctors and nurses, ICU staff, experienced ward nurses from acute areas and allied health care professionals, such as pharmacists and laboratory technicians.
Major Gary Kenward said: “In exchange for offering their clinical skills to help save the lives of injured British soldiers NHS staff become part of an organisation that enhances leadership skills, improves personal fitness, provides adventure training and offers a good social life, and pays individuals for doing it. With the support of a very positive Fairfield Hospital communications team the week has been a great success, with visits to a number of key departments and electronic advertising to many more staff via the Trust web system. Feedback has been encouraging with serious enquiries from several staff.”
