Bury Market, the only outright winner of the National Association of British Market Authorities Market of the Year, has been nominated as one of three finalists for Best Food Market in BBC Radio 4’s  Food and Farming Awards.

Twenty five finalists in eight different categories have been unveiled in this year’s Awards. The event which takes place in November has been described by Jamie Oliver as the “Oscars of the food world”.

The awards have taken place since 2000 and they aim to celebrate the people and organisations who produce and promote the best of British food.

The awards aim to find the Best Local Food Retailer, Best Take-Away, Farmer of The Year, Best Dinner Lady, Best Food Producer, Best Retail Initiative, the Derek Cooper Award and Best Food Market. It also features the BBC Food Personality of the Year, awarded in 2007 to James Martin.

The Judges will be visiting Bury Market on 17 October to view the fine range of food and local produce on offer.

This year’s award winners will be featured on BBC Radio 4’s The Food Programme and Farming Today, and also on BBC Local Radio.
