Radcliffe is Reading Project Launch

Date published: 19 September 2008

The Radcliffe is Reading project will be launched at Radcliffe Hall Primary School on 7 October when a Town Crier will shout out loud about this fantastic project.

A Town Crier will announce at school assembly the details of the Radcliffe is Reading Project which aims to get more local children reading. This will be a fun and informal way of telling parents and teachers about the project and also ask them to take part in the challenge.

The project aims to get school children reading and regularly visiting their local library. Primary schools in Radcliffe will compete to see who can get the highest percentage of their pupils signed up as library members by Christmas. The winners of the competition will get £200 to buy books for their school.

To encourage children to revisit the library and take books out once they have joined, the children will be able to enter a prize draw to win a Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS.

The project has been funded through Community Development Funding provided by Radcliffe Local Area Partnership and Bury Library Service. The Town Crier will be visiting other local schools over the coming weeks to publicise this project further.

Councillor Cummings, the Chair of Radcliffe Local Area Partnership will also attend the launch, said “This is a fantastic project to get children to pick up some really good books at their local library and get reading”.
