School Pupils provide the missing Connexions

Date published: 08 July 2008

Bury School pupils have teamed up with Connexions, an information and guidance
service for young people, to tell them how to improve the service.

A celebratory event will be held on Tuesday 8 July ay the Mets Arts Centre to
recognise and reward the work of the Connexions Champions over the past school
year. Mark Dennis, Connexions Manager will present certificates and the young
people will take part in a circus skills workshop.

Connexions Champions gather views from other young people to allow staff to
shape the future direction of the service. The Champions also promote the
service to their peer group.

Over the past year Connexions Champions have suggested that notice boards be
kept up to date, role plays take place in school assemblies to promote the
service and feedback boxes be introduced into each schools to allow for
anonymous comments, All of these suggestions have been implemented by staff in
order to make the service better.

Councillor Diana Ashworth, Executive Member for Children and Young People; "It
is important that staff listen to the views of young people to find out how
their needs can best be met. The Connexions Champions scheme provides some
really valuable ideas and I would like to thank all those who took part for
their hard work over the past year."
