Bury patients' champion takes message to national stage

Date published: 15/12/2009

Bury patients’ champion Paul Mainwaring is taking his vow to improve patient care to a national audience with a series of high profile speaking engagements.

Mr Mainwaring, a winner of the NHS Unsung Hero award for his tireless voluntary work to improve patient involvement and patient care, has completed a series of speaking engagements across the country highlighting the importance of patient involvement to both current and future health services.

Events and conferences that Paul has spoken at range from ‘Measuring and Monitoring Patient Experience,’ ‘Developing LINKs’ to ‘Essence of Care: Moving Forward.’

Mr Mainwaring, 51, from Ainsworth, is also chairman of the Patients Council, an independent group made up of patients with long term medical conditions that works closely with NHS trusts across the country and other relevant organisations advising on a range of patient related issues.

Mr Mainwaring said: “Speaking at national events allows me to take my message of patient involvement to a much wider audience and to those that influence change. It gives me the opportunity to spark debate, question current thinking and create change on a national platform. Ultimately it allows me to emphasise just how vitally important it is that the concerns, views and thoughts of patients influence both current and future health services.”
