Local GP appointed as a mentor
Date published: 08/12/2009
A local doctor has been appointed to support other GPs to continue to top up on their skills for the benefit of patients.
Dr. Debbie Hartley, GP at Greenmount Medical Centre, has been appointed as Bury’s new Primary Care Medical Educator (PCME).
The role of a PCME is to encourage learning amongst GPs and their teams and to support them to continually develop professionally, for the benefit of the individuals and their patients.
Dr. Hartley said: “General practice is changing and education needs to change to keep up. I am working with peers to identify opportunities to support GPs and their teams to continue to develop professionally, whilst ensuring the training is enjoyable and relevant to meet the health needs of people in Bury.”
The majority of educational opportunities will be practice based, to ensure the best use of time and resources, but will also encompass e-learning and educational events.
All educational topics will be relevant and based on local requirements, to make sure GPs and their teams can stay up to date with current guidance and topics, which will in turn improve the patient experience.
