Reporter: Ask Bury
Date online: 15 May 2007

The next meeting of the Bury Town Centre Forum will take place on Monday 21st May at 5pm in the main theatre at the Met, Market Street in Bury.

The focus of the business meeting will be the Metrolink Track Replacement proposals.  Representatives from the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) will be providing information about the proposals and how this will affect the metrolink service, and the provision of alternative public transport services for Bury, how these will operate, and how the "Bury So much more, Business as Usual’ campaign can be supported.

Continuing the Public Transport theme, businesses attending will be able to find out more about a "Car Quit scheme’ to encourage car users to sample bus services/public transport with the offer of free sample bus travel available to some participants.

The meeting will also include information about the proposals for the Chamber Hall Business Park (off Peel Way) where works are due to start later this year on an exciting development providing approx 0.5 million square feet of high quality office space, a hotel and new police headquarters.  Details of the scheme together with an outline development programme will be provided.

Businesses will also hear about progress with the Fusiliers Museum in the town centre as part of the expanding Culture Quarter.

An opportunity will be provided for businesses to raise any queries relating to the town centre issues covered at the meeting or other areas of concern.

Liz Gillan Town Centres Co-ordinator with Bury Council said: "The Business Forum meetings are a key element in the development of a Town Centre Partnership for Bury, a partnership between the Business community, Bury Council and other agencies.  Exciting times lie ahead for Bury Town Centre with new major new development proposals taking place. The forum provides an opportunity for businesses to find out what is going on in the town centre that may affect business, and provides an opportunity to raise any issues of concern and get involved.  All businesses are invited to attend, it’s your business and your town centre so come along and find out more".

Anyone requiring further information about the meeting should contact Liz Gillan on 0161 253 5974 or by e-mail to implementation@bury.gov.uk
