Chamber Chief Executive Clive Memmott took part in a briefing on the Employer Ownership of Skills Pilot yesterday.
The scheme will give businesses direct access to up to £250 million of public investment to boost Apprenticeships and other vocational training. The event was staged by the UK Commission For Employment And Skills in conjunction with the Commission For The New Economy.
The guest speakers were: John Hayes MP, Minister of State for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning; Mike Blackburn, Regional Director of BT and Chair of the Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership; Sean Taggart, Co-owner and Chief Executive of The Albatross Group of Companies; Michael Davis, Chief Executive of the UK Commission for Employment and Skills.
Clive Memmott said: "The Chamber welcomes this initiative which aims to give the employers more influence in the development and provision of the skills required to grow our economy. We are delighted to play a leading part in this initiative."
