Simpler Rules On Hiring And Firing
Date published: 23 November 2011
The Government has announced a series of measures and reforms aimed at reducing the amount of employment legislation facing businesses when it comes to hiring and firing staff.
Chris Fletcher, Director of Policy at Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, said: "Many businesses have horror stories of either inadvertently falling foul of employment law or being uncertain as to the best way to tackle issues in their workforce.
"This impacts on growth and confidence and we have acknowledged this in our Action For Business proposal on employment legislation. By tackling the problem now, government have listened to business and the Chamber and the proposals make sense.
"They are not about making the rules uneven or prejudiced against employees but will allow sensible and rational discussion and decisions to be made without fear of costly or expensive action through employment tribunals. We urge government to move quickly on these and bring them into action as soon as possible."
