O2 embark on training programme with Bury College Business Solutions

Staff from Bury College Business Solutions attended the O2 Customer Service Centre at Dumers Lane, Bury to share details of some of the Skills for Life opportunities available to the people of Bury.

The team at O2 were given information on a number of courses, which will be run on-site by Bury College Business Solutions and are designed to work around the shifts of the O2 staff to give everyone the opportunity to take part.

Some of the courses available include: IT, English, Maths, Basic Spanish, Basic French, Sign Language, Customer Service, Team Leading and Management.

The Skills for Life courses are all funded on the provision that those taking part in the programme fulfil a numeracy or literacy course prior to starting. Participants will then receive the equivalent of a GCSE A, B or C qualification on completion of the course.

Commenting on the initiative, Philomena Widdowson, Operations Manager for O2, said, “In collaboration with Bury College Business Solutions, we wanted to give our staff the opportunity to enhance their qualifications and give them the chance to learn a new skill.

The Skills for Life courses are available to everyone in Bury who would like to get involved and the College will be making classes as flexible as possible to fit in with people’s work patterns. The courses are proving really popular so far and a number of our staff have already signed up.”
