Bury Employment & Training Initiative
Date published: 16 July 2010
The Rock launched its Employment and Training Charter in June 2010 to coincide with the official opening of the Bury Works Job Shop in Bury town centre.
The Employment and Training Charter pledges to train and employ people within Bury and the wider borough for the 500 new jobs created at The Rock.
The initiative operates in partnership with Bury’s B-Ready project and the signatories of the Charter are: Hammerson, The Rock, Bury Council, Jobcentre Plus, Skills Funding Agency and Connexions.
The Bury Works Job Shop has been set up to help local people who are currently out of work gain employment with new retailers who are opening at The Rock. Retailers currently using the initiative include Next, Pizza Express, Frankie & Benny’s and Hurley.
The shop, which provides dedicated advisors who can offer support on training, roles available and how to apply is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 4pm.
Hammerson has over ten years of experience in delivering successful employment training schemes. In 2008, over 6,000 retail and leisure related jobs were created at Highcross in Leicester and Cabot Circus in Bristol. In 2009 at Union Square, Aberdeen around 56% of the 1,200 new jobs created were to people who had been previously unemployed.
