Festive Treats in Ramsbottom
Date published: 22 December 2009
Throughout December Ramsbottom played host to three specialist markets providing the perfect place for festive shoppers.
The events kicked off on December 6 with a craft and food market, comedy Victorian carol singers Dizzy and Dotty, and the Elizabeth Svendson Trust Donkeys who accompanied Mary and Joseph to the nativity at St Paul’s Church.
A special Christmas Farmers Market took place on December 13 selling food, drink and local craft products.
Concluding the festivities was an International Market on December 19 and 20 with products from as far afield as Asia, Peru, Brazil, Ecuador, Morocco and Ghana.
A perfect ending to these events came on December 20 when the snow fell as Ramsbottom’s Reindeer arrived.
On each of these markets, shoppers were entertained by local primary school children and Churches Together singing carols, plus visits from Father Christmas and the Lancashire Hawks and Owls.
The events were jointly organised by Ramsbottom Business Group and Bury Council Town Centres Team, made possible with financial assistance from several fund-raising events staged by the Group and Ramsbottom Local Area Partnership.
Ruth Shedwick of the Town Centres Team said: “It’s a pleasure to work with an active Business Group in Ramsbottom, where the traders are passionate about the town and have helped us reach one of our goals to promote Ramsbottom as a popular tourist destination.
“We hope to continue a programme of events in the town and would like to say a big “thank you” to everyone who has been involved and of course the public who have enjoyed spending time in Ramsbottom.”
