Gold stars and great food
Date published: 02 September 2009
Bury Market traders Albert’s the Artisan Butcher have triumphed again and won more gold stars in the national Great Taste Awards.
Dubbed the “epicurean equivalent of the Booker prize” and regarded as the benchmark for fine food and drink in the UK, the awards are organised by the Guild of Fine Food and have been running since 1993.
All entries undergo rigorous tests, including blind tasting, by a panel of experts including leading chefs, buyers, food critics and deli owners.
Of the 4,873 products entered in this year’s awards, 639 achieved one gold star, 308 received two stars, and 83 were awarded three stars.
This year Albert’s were awarded three gold stars for their dry cured back bacon, and their pork, stilton and English wholegrain mustard sausages.
Albert’s products have previously been awarded two golds in 2006 and three gold awards in 2007.
Albert’s the Artisan Butcher is open from Monday to Saturday and can be found at stall E in the Fish and Meat Hall on Bury Market.
