Bury New Homes Provide Space to Grow
Date published: 03 July 2009
Registered social landlord Contour Homes has started work to build six new family homes. These three-bedroom, semi-detached properties will be available to rent and will provide much needed additional accommodation on the Rivers Estate in Bury.
Two of the properties are on Bollin Walk and four on Glaze Walk and all are being built on land which was previously used for garages. An additional element of the new homes is that they have been ear-marked as ‘home-grow’ areas.
Andrea Swanwick from Contour Homes explains: “The interest in home grown food, both to save money and ensure the provenance of the food we eat, continues to expand. Contour Homes has included a space in the back garden which can be used for growing fruit and vegetables and research suggest that this has proved a very welcome addition to new home builds.”
This £757,000 scheme, which has been supported by the Homes and Communities Agency with a grant of £408,000, will provide architect designed family accommodation which has been built to make them energy efficient and sustainable.
Andrea Swanwick adds: “We have had extensive consultation both with local residents and the local authority which has resulted in extra car parking which will benefit other local residents.”
Architects for the scheme were Nicol Thomas Architects. The start on site by Richardson Developments should ensure the new homes are ready for occupation by spring 2010. Bury Metropolitan Borough Council and Contour Homes will share nomination rights.
