Bury Council supports small businesses through economic downturn
Date published: 05 November 2008
Bury Council today has announced that it will be reducing the time it normally takes to pay bills on contracts between small and medium sized businesses and the council from 30 days to 10 days.
Bury Council recognises that in the current economic climate many small and medium sized businesses, many of whom are based within the borough, are experiencing a number of challenges and difficulties caused by the wider global economic problems.
Guy Freeman, Bury President of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, said: “It is great to see that the council is supporting local business in this way. This change in payment schedule will really help businesses who are finding it difficult to manager their cash flow in the current economic climate”.
Councillor Bob Bibby, Leader of Bury Council, said: “We appreciate that the current economic downturn is affecting businesses in a number of ways. The council wants to provide as much help and support as we can. We believe that by aiming to reduce payment times from a 30 day period to a 10 day period we will be doing our bit to help businesses in these challenging times.”
“We also recognise that the downturn will affect individuals and so we are also looking at ways we can help the wider population of Bury, for instance by promoting access to benefits and housing advice”
