Visitors are welcome at all services, but the church will not be open to the public at other times today.

The walk starts in Pateley Bridge and goes to Brimham, Hartwith and Summerbridge.

The route begins at the car park on the south side of Fewston Embankment and follows Swinsty Reservoir south to the outflow of the River Washburn. It then climbs out of the valley onto Sandwith Moor before turning north past Scargill Reservoir to drop into the valley of Oak Beck. Here it joins the Dales Way Link from Harrogate to return to the north side of Swinsty and back to the car park.

The University Centre at Holy Cross College in Bury is delighted to be offering a range of degree courses. Working in close partnership with three universities: Edge Hill, Leeds Metropolitan, Liverpool Hope and St Mary University College, Twickenham, Holy Cross’s University Centre provides a unique local opportunity for people seeking courses close to home delivered in a supportive environment. The drop-in evening will be an opportunity for prospective students to come along and find out more about the courses we have on offer.

Families are invited to go wild in the country and learn about their local green spaces.

Organised by Bury Ranger Service and Tottington Wildlife Group, the event is to promote the new Tottington Wildlife Group (Twigs).

The group wants children aged 8-13 to get involved in their environment and learn about wildlife and nature by taking part in activities such as bug hunting, pond dipping, wildlife surveying, fishing, and arts and crafts.

Among the groups attending the event will be the RSPB, Barn Owl Bill, Pimholes Community Farm, Lancashire Wildlife Trust, Greenmount Bird Sanctuary and the Bury District Dog Club. Families can enjoy willow weaving and wood carving, and there will also be face painting and a bouncy castle.

Two weeks of activities have been organised for 5-11 year-olds during this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.

The first week, from August 9 to 13, is titled “Alien ooze and space dust”, and gives youngsters an unmissable chance to conduct messy science experiments.

Then, from August 16 to 20, you can enter “The Next Dimension” and create an alien to challenge Doctor Who and co.
