A giuded walk to learn about Bury's most famous son plus a visit to the Bury Museum to view a special display of personal artefacts of the Peel family.

The walks are open to all. Participants should meet at Bury Museum Reception Desk. Walks last for approximately one hour. No need to book.

Manifold Valley - Walk

The walk involves exploring the high ground of Ecton and Wetton hills, visiting Thor's Cave (bring a torch) and dipping in and out of the Manifold Valley. We will walk through the typical white peak villages of Wetton, Brotherton and Grindon, which are collectively known as "the Cathedral of the Staffordshire Moors." The walk starts from Warslow, opposite the Greyhound pub.

Swinsty Reservoir to Sandwith Moor - Walk

The route begins at the car park on the south side of Fewston Embankment and follows Swinsty Reservoir south to the outflow of the River Washburn. It then climbs out of the valley onto Sandwith Moor before turning north past Scargill Reservoir to drop into the valley of Oak Beck. Here it joins the Dales Way Link from Harrogate to return to the north side of Swinsty and back to the car park.

Go wild in the park

Families are invited to go wild in the country and learn about their local green spaces.

Organised by Bury Ranger Service and Tottington Wildlife Group, the event is to promote the new Tottington Wildlife Group (Twigs).

The group wants children aged 8-13 to get involved in their environment and learn about wildlife and nature by taking part in activities such as bug hunting, pond dipping, wildlife surveying, fishing, and arts and crafts.

Among the groups attending the event will be the RSPB, Barn Owl Bill, Pimholes Community Farm, Lancashire Wildlife Trust, Greenmount Bird Sanctuary and the Bury District Dog Club. Families can enjoy willow weaving and wood carving, and there will also be face painting and a bouncy castle.

Peel Tower

Pennine Way & Rochdale Canal - Walk

The walk follows old transport routes, including towpaths, packhorse trails and rail lines. It starts from Littleborough along the Rochdale Canal and then climbs over Summit Tunnel and follows the Pennine Bridleway through Reddyshore Scout. The route again crosses the Rochdale Canal and climbs to the Pennine Way via Cat Stones. The Pennine Way is followed as far as Blackstone Edge before descending and returning to Littleborough.

Weavers’ Triangle to Gorple Stones & Back - Walk

Starting from the ‘Inn on the Wharf’ in Burnley the walk proceeds via the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, the River Brun, Worsthorne & the Burnley Way to the Gorple Stones. It returns via Cant Clough Reservoir, Hurstwood, Mereclough & Towneley Hall.

Darwen Tower to Entwistle - Walk

From the start at Slipper Lowe car park, the walk drops down through the woods to Tockholes before climbing up to Darwen Tower. It then goes south to Entwistle and returns along the Witton Weavers Way via Hollinshead Hall.
