Jacqui Goggs from the BANG Project said: “Redbank Lodges is a lovely place with a fantastic range of wildlife to be found. It is great to show children how they can use the free resources on the lodges to make things and have fun.”

Family learning is a crafty business at library

Print this Event

A free craft session for families takes place at Bury Library to mark the national Campaign for Learning.

The session includes stories, making flower cards and much more, and is on Friday 17 February from 1pm to 3pm.

It is suitable for children aged four and above, and youngsters must be accompanied by an adult: parents, grandparents and carers are welcome. Places are limited, so please book at Bury Library.

The Campaign for Learning works to build motivation, create opportunities and provide support for learning in families. It says that research shows that lifelong learners are more likely to be happier, healthier, have better jobs, contribute more to society and live longer and more fulfilled lives. Also, that parental involvement in a child's learning is more powerful than family background, size of family or level of parental education and, in the primary years, has more impact on attainment than the school itself.

Time/Date:
17 February 2012
Friday 1.00pm to 3.00pm

Venue/Address:
Bury Central Library
Manchester Road

Rhyme Challenge success for toddlers

Print this Event

Toddlers and babies are becoming budding poet laureates at Radcliffe Library’s Rhyme Time sessions.

With their parents, they have been taking part in the Bookstart Rhyme Challenge which encourages a love of rhymes and poetry at an early age. The rhymes are fun and easy to learn, including old favourites like “Hey Diddle, Diddle” and “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”.

The Bookstart Bear, a very special guest indeed, also came along to present the children with their Bookstart certificate.

Assistant librarian Sarah Howell said: “The children have been excellent and have quickly learned to sit and join in with the actions and the rhymes. Many of the rhymes are repetitive, which makes them easier to learn, and are a fun way of helping a child acquire language skills and build learning blocks for the future.”

The Rhyme Time sessions at Radcliffe Library are held on Tuesdays from 10.30am to 11am.

Time/Date:
17 December 2012
Tuesdays, 10.30am to 11.30am
